Exact Comms Installation App – Quick Start Guide (Beacons Only)
This guide explains how to use the Exact Comms Installation App to:
- Log in with your Exact Comms credential.
- Add new beacons to your assigned site
- Name and configure each beacon correctly
- Adjust beacon signal range using the Scan tool
Step 1: Login
When you open the Exact Comms Installation App, you will see the Login Screen:
To Log In:
- Enter your email address provided by Exact Comms as the username.
- Enter your assigned password.
- Tap the blue LOGIN button.
Important Notes:
Use the credentials provided by Exact Comms — personal email accounts won’t work.
Your email and password must match exactly as they were created — including capital letters and punctuation (they are case sensitive).

Step 2:
Select Your Site
After logging in, you will see
the Dashboard.
- Your assigned sites will be listed
(e.g., "Buttercrane", "Exactcomms Facility", etc.).
- Use the search bar at the top
to quickly find a site if needed.
- Tap on a site name to start working
on it.
Step 3: Add New Beacons
Before adding a device, turn on the Beacon:
- Use a
pen (or similar blunt object) to push the small button on the side of the
Beacon.
- A solid
blue light will appear for 5 seconds — this means the Beacon is ON.
Note:
If the
Beacon was already ON, pressing the button once will show a flashing blue light
for 5 seconds — this means the Beacon is now turned OFF.
Then add the device:
- Tap Devices on your selected site.
- Tap Add
Device.
- Scan
the QR code on the
Beacon.

Name the Beacon:
- After
scanning, you'll see the Edit Checkpoint screen.
- Enter a name based on the location of the beacon:
- Example
names: Toilet, Office, Corridor, Reception
- Leave
the RSSI and MAC address unchanged.
Tip:
Always make sure the Beacon is turned ON before scanning the QR code.
Step 4: Adjust Beacon Range (Scan
Section)
After adding and naming the Beacon:
1. Open the Scan Section
From the Dashboard, tap the Scan button next to the site
you're working on.

2. View Available Beacons
- You
will see a list of nearby beacons with:
- Checkpoint
Name (e.g. Living Room, Level G
Toilet)
- MAC
Address
- Signal
Strength (dBm)
- Tap the beacon you want to configure.
3. Open Config Tab
- On the
beacon info screen, tap the Config tab on the left.
4. Adjust Radio Power (Range) [Optional]
- Use the
Radio Tx Power slider to increase or decrease beacon signal range:
- Move
the slider right to increase range (higher dBm).
- Move
the slider left to reduce range (lower dBm).
📏Example: Use lower range (-12 dBm to -20 dBm) for small rooms, higher range for
large open spaces.
Do not change the Adv
Interval unless instructed.
TxPower (dBm) | Approximate Range | Typical Use |
-40 dBm
| ~1–2 meters (3–7 feet)
| Doorways, close-proximity areas
|
-20 dBm (Default) | ~7 meters (23 feet) | Small rooms, general areas |
-16 dBm
| ~10 meters (32 feet)
| Small indoor spaces
|
-12 dBm | ~12 meters (39 feet) | Slightly larger rooms |
-8 dBm
| ~22 meters (72 feet)
| Open-plan offices
|
-4 dBm | ~27 meters (89 feet) | Large rooms or medium open
spaces |
0 dBm
| ~90 meters (295 feet)
| Very large spaces
|
+4 dBm | >100 meters (328+ feet) | Outdoor or very large open
areas |
5. Save Settings
✅ The beacon disconnects after saving
— this confirms the update was sent.
Use lower settings for small rooms to avoid signal "bleed" into other rooms.
Use higher settings for large halls or outdoor areas.
